I have a bachelor's degree in biology from Trinity College and an MBA from Union College (which I pursued while working at Ayco). My career began in Boston, where I worked for a large financial services firm in their global bond group and at another firm in the mutual funds division. I eventually found Ayco through a family friend and interviewed with the Investment Services Group. The process was intense, but it was clear that all the individuals I met placed a high value on the quality of the people they hired.
In addition to the people, what attracted me to Ayco were the unique business model, significant growth and long-term career potential. The location of Ayco and ISG in Upstate New York was also an ideal place to be and raise a family.
I began as an investment analyst in Ayco's Investment Planning Group, a job in which I was introduced to all aspects of investments. We provided investment information and training to the rest of the firm. We published internal research on investment topics including various securities, strategies, the economy, market themes and asset allocation. We also conducted due diligence on mutual funds for the Ayco List of Mutual Funds.
Over time I was given the opportunity to move up to investment officer and then to apply my skills directly with clients as an investment professional. I work with a number of the firm's wealthiest clients advising on and managing their investment portfolio assets. Our group prides itself on delivering a high level of service by demonstrating investment acumen, being proactive throughout the portfolio construction process and responsive to client inquiries. Through my role, I work with our financial counseling offices in New York, Illinois and Michigan. Ayco's continued success and affiliation with Goldman Sachs has led to unbelievable growth opportunities for its employees and a world-class platform for its clients.
Each day presents a new challenge. However, my mornings usually begin with reading various research reports, market news and investment publications to stay current on the market landscape and pertinent news relating to client companies. I'll often meet with client analysts to review the status of recent projects and outline tasks that need to be completed. Mornings may also bring calls from clients or trade activity.
Throughout the day, I review my client accounts checking on the asset allocation, cash management, performance, etc. Many days are spent putting together client reviews or investment allocations for upcoming meetings. Because our client relationships are so important, I'll spend significant time traveling and meeting with new and existing clients. While on the road, I am always connected to the office.
Late afternoon is a time when my group often gets together for investment and operational meetings. The time is also used to research and stay current on our investment platform. In my role, the day never really ends as I am often logged on at home, or responding to clients after hours.
Ayco's culture is one of integrity and positive attitude. When I first joined Ayco, I heard a great deal about how the people make it a great place to work. Having been able to interact with many people in nearly every department, I can say that it is absolutely true. Being surrounded by quality people makes the work environment positive and productive. I feel Ayco is a big, growing company that has been able to maintain its small-company feel.
I am fortunate to be part of a high-quality organization and to have had managers who have truly taken the time to help me build my skill set and career. In addition, you will not find a more open and friendly work environment. I am looking forward to continued growth and furthering relationships with clients.
The investment process is dynamic, and the pace of the job is swift. What I like most about my role is building relationships with clients. Since our clients are usually top executives at major corporations, it is very interesting to meet and learn about them as people. I try to exceed their expectations in the level of service we provide and to give them the attention they simply will not find anywhere else.
