How I Got Here

When I graduated from the University of Michigan in the spring of 2006 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, I wanted a career that would challenge me continuously to learn as much as I could in a supportive work environment. My career focus was narrow, because I wanted to work as a financial advisor in some capacity. I also knew that opportunities for such a career path were few, especially one where I would receive significant training.

I discovered Ayco on my school's career center Web site, and the job description fit exactly: There was a training program, a clear and direct career path and the company was owned by one of the largest financial firms in the world, Goldman Sachs. I conducted research on many other companies in the financial planning industry, and a significant percentage of them required new hires to do a lot of cold calling to drum up business while providing minimal training and support. Ayco intrigued me because most if not all of its business is derived from referrals. It provided a supportive training program that closely monitored my progress while managing to provide me the individual attention that a recent graduate like me needed.

What I Do

I work on a counseling team as a financial planner with an account manager and an administrative assistant. Our team works with nearly 100 clients. Although more is expected of me, I am constantly learning and being challenged – and the support is still there. I have had the opportunity to attend client meetings and company presentations.

A Typical Day

The things that keep my daily routine interesting are my co-workers and the actual work that we do. The work is not just about crunching numbers into a spreadsheet. I am working with information that affects real people and their lives.

Most of our clients rely on us for most major financial decisions, and no two clients or financial situations are exactly alike. My work environment is dynamic and fun. All day I am surrounded by very intelligent people with great personalities.

My Colleagues

Teamwork is very important. I think the success of any individual financial planner, account manager or administrative assistant is vitally dependent upon the success of the team. We need each other to get our work done for the client, and that fact makes you realize how significant you are to each other.

Commitment To Clients

Great client service is Ayco's main goal. That is our business. Trust plays a huge role in our business and it is the reason for our success. Our clients trust that the guidance they get is truly in their best interest. If we are not focused on what is best for our clients, then our business doesn't work.
